Your first visit will last up to 45 minutes as we take a detailed medical history including the symptoms or injuries that you are seeking help with and questions about your general health and lifestyle. The osteopath will then perform a physical examination of your body and ask you to perform specific movements. They may also look at any test results, x-rays and scan reports if you have these available.
What to wear?
You may be asked to undress to your underwear, so that they can see and palpate (a developed sense of touch) the areas of the body causing concern. If you are uncomfortable undressing to your underwear sports shorts and vest, or close fitting garments, can be worn.
Following a full assessment the osteopath will explain their diagnosis, treatment plan and management for you. They will ensure that you understand all aspects and are happy with the proposed treatment plan. Please feel fee to ask questions at any time.
Is Treatment Painful?
It is fairly common to experience some mild discomfort during and after treatment. Following treatment about half of patients report some mild soreness in the area of their body that was treated, this can usually be relieved with application of cold or hot packs or an over the counter pain killer and will go away within 24-48 hours. If you experience serious or unusual symptoms after treatment you should contact your osteopath for advice.
